I have often worried about how something very pretty can instill horror in our minds. Contradictory emotions of amazement and terror crowd me as I watch this picture. This is the eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallaökull volcano this Sunday as lightning struck the volcanic ash cloud. Nature is powerful and despite all our advances I still feel not more than a speck on the surface of the earth.
